Ryder operates a carpooling platform in Jordan. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who it reaches, and what you can do about it. It covers the Ryder mobile app, our web app, and our Telegram bot.
1. Information we collect
Account and identity:
- Your first name, surname and family name, and your gender. Gender is used for matching, because riders may choose who they travel with.
- Your phone number and, if you provide one, your email address.
- The identifier from the service you sign in with — Telegram, Google or Apple. We store the identifier itself, not your password for that service.
- Your home area and a free-text reference point you write to describe your usual pickup spot.
- A profile photo, if you upload one. You can hide it from other riders or remove it.
Drivers only — documents required to carry passengers:
- Your national ID number, driving licence number and expiry date, and vehicle licence number and expiry date.
- Photographs of your national ID, driving licence and vehicle licence, a photograph of your car, and a photograph of your face used to confirm identity.
- Your vehicle make, model year, colour, engine type and plate number.
- Your CliQ wallet alias or payment phone number, so passengers can pay you.
Trips and activity:
- Trips you create, join, cancel or complete, and the seats and fares involved.
- Messages you send to other participants in a trip. These are stored on our servers in readable form so they can be delivered and, if someone reports a problem, reviewed by our team.
- Reports and complaints you file, and reports filed about you.
- Subscription payment records, referral credit, and trip-streak progress.
- Which advertisements you were shown and which you tapped.
Location:
- A one-time position snapshot when you join a trip, so the driver knows where to collect you.
- Your live position while a trip is active, shared with the other people on that trip. Live positions are held only briefly and are not written to our database.
- On Android, location may continue while the app is in the background during an active trip, so that tracking does not stop when your screen is off. This is why the app asks for background location permission, and it applies only while a trip is under way.
Device and technical:
- A push-notification token for your device.
- The IP address and device description recorded when you sign in, so we can tell you if your account is used from a device you do not recognise.
- Your language preference.
2. How we use it
- To match passengers with drivers, and to run trips.
- To show other people on your trip who you are: your name, your gender, your photo if you have not hidden it, and — for drivers — your vehicle and plate.
- To verify that drivers are licensed, and to stop them accepting trips when their documents expire.
- To send you notifications about your trips, your subscription and your account, through the app, Telegram, and email.
- To take payment for subscriptions and to apply referral credit.
- To investigate reports, enforce our rules, and keep people safe.
3. Who receives it
We do not sell your personal information.
- Other people on your trip see your name, gender, photo and live location while the trip is active. Drivers additionally show their vehicle and plate; passengers see a driver’s payment alias in order to pay.
- Our administrators can see your account, your documents and your reports, and can open your account to investigate a support request.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf: our hosting provider, Telegram (for bot messages), Expo (for push notifications to Apple devices), Google and Apple (for sign-in), and Resend (for email).
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
4. Location, specifically
We ask for location permission for three distinct things, and you can refuse each:
- While using the app: to place you on the map and to record where you want to be collected.
- In the background, during an active trip only: so that your position keeps updating for the driver or passengers when your screen is off or you switch apps. This stops when the trip ends.
- Never when you have no active trip. We do not build a history of your movements, and live positions are discarded shortly after they are received.
You can withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings. The app still works; the map and live tracking do not.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account and its documents: while your account exists.
- Notifications: pruned automatically after a short period.
- Live location: minutes, in temporary storage only.
- Trips, messages, reports and payment records: retained while your account exists, because they are shared history with other people and evidence in disputes.
- If you delete your account: a one-way fingerprint of the identifiers it used, kept indefinitely. See "Deleting your account" below for exactly what this is and why it exists.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: Profile → Delete my account. This permanently removes your profile, your documents, your messages and your trip participation, and signs you out everywhere. It cannot be undone.
Reports filed about you, and reports you filed about other people, are kept without your name attached. Deleting an account must not be a way to erase a safety complaint someone made, or to remove evidence another person still needs.
One thing does survive deletion, and you should know what it is. We keep a one-way fingerprint — a keyed digest, not the value itself — of the identifiers the account used: phone number, email address, national ID number, and any Telegram, Google, Apple or Facebook sign-in. Stored alongside it is how much of your free trial you had used, whether the account had been blocked by an administrator, and any cancellation lockout that had not yet expired. It cannot be reversed back into your phone number or your email, it is never used to contact you or to build a profile, and it is not shared with anyone. It exists for one reason: so that deleting an account and signing up again does not hand out a second free trial, reset a limit, or lift a ban. If you register again with the same details, that is what carries your previous allowance and any restriction across.
You can also request deletion by writing to support@ryderjo.com.
7. Your rights
- Ask us what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your account, as above.
- Withdraw location or notification permission in your device settings.
8. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to administrative tools requires a separate account, and administrative actions are recorded. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if something affecting your data goes wrong.
9. Children
Ryder is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will remove it.
